All Soul's Day - November 2, 2006Thursday

Remembering those who have walked away with Azrael.
Do you miss someone who has gone? Light a candle. Do you have regrets? Is there something you need to tell a deceased one? Write a letter or better, talk with them. The dead hear you.

All Soul's Day is for the living to remember the deceased-go ahead-make contact.

Just remember-one day you too will be someone's memory.

It was the end of summer and early autumnal winds brushed my soul as I thought on how to go about recording the interview. Who would actually believe me? Maybe I should forget it, but Azrael's memory haunted me. I asked for a sign.
Having coffee at a cafe in Cascais, an acquaintance began to unravel his experience with death. My ears perked up and I listened carefully. "I was in a car accident." Who wasn't in Portugal? Everyone drives like a lunatic. "I was in a coma for two days and that is when I met God." Oh, what did he say? Did he say GOD? I was getting a signal. "During that entire time, God and I talked." I thought to myself: "I better write the book." I just had to ask, "What did he say to you?" "The funny thing is I can't remember, but we talked. When I came out of the coma I was a changed man."
It was at that precise moment that Azrael decided to chide me. The gentleman ordered a hot chocolate and I became overwhelmed with a sense of guilt. In his own fashion, the angel of death, was reminding me that our interview was not to be kept my secret. The deal was that I would be given the interview, but I had to publish its contents.
So, I sat at the computer, looking out at the Atlantic from my studio window, typing my adventure with Azrael.
So dear readers, think what you may, but my experience was a stark reality. Death comes to all, sooner or later.
Edgar Allen Poe reminds us in his poem,

The Conqueror Worm
(last stanza)
...Out-out are the lights-out all!
And, over each quivering form,
The curtain, a funeral pall,
Comes down with the rush of a storm while the angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unvieling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, 'Man,'
And its hero the Conqueror Worm.

Although I must admit, that Azrael was 'no worm.' Our bodies will come to an end, but death had arrived with a very different messaage, a message dabbed with humor.
Like all other arts, funding is usually lacking. All artists have to make a living. It's part of the game of life.
'Interview with Death' e-book download will launch on November 18th 2006 . It's yours, for the order.
Azrael has a message. Don't wait for your curtain call to hear it. He's not offering a way out but offering how to go out.

Many people die at twenty five and aren't buried until they are seventy five.
